I don’t write to you much these days
So busy with school
I’m at a loss of what words to say
Still I tend to stay
So honey tell me a story
All about you now
When you’re ready I’ll be waiting
To write it all down
Over and over…
Cause I’ve been trying
Chasing something I felt missing
It must be fiction
Is there some truth to the meaning?
I think love
Is what I want, it’s what I want
It's what I need
But these poems
Take too much ink, make papers bleed
To write my dreams.
Carrie,
The weather spilled out gray
On this summer day and
Seasons
Turn the trees around
Throwing their leaves to the ground
I’m walking on the remains
Carrie,
I have this winter chill
That cools all my veins and
Freezes
But it’s still inside
The fire that thaws in time
Making puddles in the streets
Carrie,
Overcast afternoons
Bring out the brightest moons
Shining
Down on these dark things
That road isn’t so daunting
As I once remembered it.
I could not stand this springtime wind
Left over from the winter’s end
It’s almost May and days are wet
Too cold to see you in that dress
I could not stand these winter coats
Bundled up from our toes to throats
All it is is an extra skin
We touch but don’t feel anything
Well if it was me
And I’d have to choose
I would purge the clouds
With sunshine pierced through
We’d shed our old skins
On the hope of growth
I would light the sky
Our real skin would show
I could not stand this springtime wind
Left over from the winter’s end.
Springtime ensures
Spring bloom
Fills the air with pollen
And ensures the love that’ll
Sprout new
Springtime bursts out
Spring heat
Fills the voids with sunshine
And bursts out the love that's
Easy
A lovely springtime day
Gets me carried away
All fall we’ve been waiting
To reveal some more skin
This lovely springtime day
Charms us in the sun’s rays.
It says
“I could have you anytime”
And if there’s just one thing
That I’ve been waiting for
Out of your dark blue party dress
We’d trade friendships for regrets
It says
“Maybe when the spring passes”
And if the sun warms the heart
Thawed from the chill of winter’s dark
I would present to you this promise
Then seal my words with a kiss
And if I could hold you
Maybe for just one night
The world would spin slower
I know we’d get the time
And when we save some face
It says “I don’t know what to say”
As night consumes the day
We lie awake and wait
It says
“You can’t have all of me”
And if you define the players
Nice boys lovers and fighters
I’d say we’re all one in the same
Charm not unique to the name
It says
“It’ll work out but not now”
And if you are the fisherman
Then I’ve been baited to the hook
Tied down to the very thought of
The most innocent kind of love
And if I could hold you
To the words that are said
The wine would spin slower
I know we’d get in bed
And when we savor face
It says “Well it’s okay, I’m not my best”
It says “It’s a creation of ignorance”
It says “What I want isn’t easy”
It says “But I still want to be happy”
This is what the expression on your face says.
Hi Carrie
I wrote this short poem for you
Stumbling on weak words
That I’d only want to say
On Valentine’s Day
I wonder if that’s okay
Everyday
I get nervous around you
Like a little boy
With his first Valentine gram
Maybe after class
We can walk home hand in hand
Well you know
I’d bring happiness to you
My sunniest days
Coincide your darkest gray
And I’d find a way
To bring light in place of rain
And Carrie
I planned this night out for you
These hearts do their best
To stay steady in our chests
I wanted to say…
But my mouth keeps it in check.
My optimism misleads me
Especially with memories
I was in lecture taking down equations
About how pencil-lined structures should have been
If designed properly
In the hour I fell asleep
Opening the doors to this dream
Well what if the world was how I imagined
These textbook equations I would understand
And breed new beginnings
And reinvention would occur
On all fronts that we're aware of
Science, society, responsibility
Fresh air carries conversation
I let you speak while I wait
Your soft words come out right when said
And reinvention would occur
Retroactive to four years past
As if though I was a senior and asked you to prom
The midnight dark conceals our hearts
I would have this last dance with you
Because this dance was overdue
My optimism misleads me
Especially with memories
This life never follows this story I write
No fairy tale endings on this hope tonight
Little dreams mean nothing
But reinvention would occur
Even with the days we have now
I still built this friendship on foundations of love
Even if our hearts never meet
Underneath my dark blue bedsheets
My life requests your company
And reinvention would occur
Where we need it the very most
Because I fear what will happen when we’re in dark
One day we’ll find a better way
With what we really mean to say
Sparking the bulb for brighter days.
